Welcome to the Tallahassee Area Home Page All students are to report to the agency on the date determined by the school and the agency (usually the first day of the semester), but not before the first day of the semester for which they have registered unless the Office of Field Education has granted prior permission. Students will adhere to regular agency hours as established by the field instructor and are responsible for notifying the field instructor if they will be late or absent for any reason. No student is allowed to report to an agency and begin an internship until the confirmation form has been signed by the field instructor and submitted to the Office of Field Education. Should a student fail to follow this procedure credit for hours earned will not be given. Favorite Links http://csw.fsu.edu/index.php?clickLink=field Leave Time Students are expected to act responsibly in their internships. Any compensatory time accumulated (which should be minimal) can be taken only with the permission and pre-approval by the agency field instructor. The Office of Field Education must be notified by the student of any extended (more than three days) leave time or illness. Any leave time taken must be coordinated with the agency supervisor. Students reported for excessive absences in the internship may receive a grade of "U"-Unsatisfactory in the course and are required to make up the time deficiency. Other policies regarding leave time are as follows. Students are expected to adhere to agency hours and holidays, NOT FSU holidays. Internship day counts as hours earned in the field.
A total of three (3) 24-hour days of leave time is allowed for an illness and/or family emergency (death or illness). If excused, these also count as hours earned. Students must communicate with their field instructor directly prior to taking these days. Arrangements must be made with the field instructor to make up any sick leave time beyond three days. In addition, the student must notify the assigned faculty liaison and/or the Office of Field Education regarding any extended absences from the placement in excess of three days. Due to the hours required, Spring Break usually cannot be observed for students in the full time internship during the Spring semester. Students may take a total of eight (8) hours during the internship to handle administrative issues, registration, secure financial aid checks, etc. These hours must be used appropriately for university related business and do not need to be made up. Students who are placed outside of Tallahassee and are attending their graduation are allowed two (2) days of travel at the end of their internship, in order to attend their graduation. This is time credited to the student ONLY with the supervisor's permission. Any time beyond the two days would be compensatory time, which has been accrued with the permission of the agency. All other students are required to be in attendance during the last week of the internship. Under no circumstances are students allowed to leave the placement early (beyond two (2) days) unless the Office of Field Education has granted special permission in advance. Field Planning and Orientations Meetings Students MUST attend all scheduled field meetings that apply to the semester that they will begin their internship (i.e., if you are to start your internship in the Spring, you must attend the Field Planning Meeting related to that semester). The Field Planning Meeting is mandatory and occurs in advance of the internship. It addresses the field planning process, the individual interview with field faculty for internship assignments, and other issues and questions related to internship assignments. All meeting dates are posted on the FIELD BOARD (located on the first floor of UCC in the classroom hallway) and on the field website (http://csw.fsu.edu/index.php?clickLink=field). All meetings are scheduled well in advance in order to allow students to schedule time to attend. It is the student's responsibility to be aware of meeting times, and students are required to sign an attendance sheet to verify their presence and the fact that they have received the information provided at the meeting.
The Area Coordinators will notify off-campus students of any mandatory meetings. Applications for Field Placement All students must meet certain eligibility requirements in order to begin their field placements. All course and grade requirements must be met prior to being accepted by the Office of Field Education and an application must be submitted in triplicate. Interview Process After the application deadline date a sign-up sheet will be posted on the Field Board indicating times in which students can sign up for an individual interview with a field faculty member to begin the placement process. This meeting, during which the student and field faculty member will discuss learning and career goals, will take approximately thirty minutes. At the end of the interview the student will receive contact information for agencies that the student and faculty member believe match the student's career and educational goals. In preparation for the meeting, the field faculty member will have read the student's application and considered internship options. Students are expected to come to the interview with ideas for placement sites. Agency are listings are available online. Students are not permitted to contact any agency directly before consulting with a field faculty member.
Once the student has interviewed with and been selected by an agency, the student must have a CONFIRMATION FORM signed by the field instructor and the field faculty member with whom they are consulting. These confirmation forms are available in the field office. Due dates for these forms will be posted on the field board and the field website. Without this form the student is not authorized to finalize the placement. Off-campus students will submit their confirmation forms to their Area Coordinator. Failure to submit the confirmation for by the specified date will result in the placement being delayed, the student being removed from the placement, and/or the student not being given credit for the hours earned. |
