Internship/Practicum in Mental Health Counseling, Art Therapy and Music Therapy

The MDC provides both one and two semester placements focusing on supervised training in direct mental health services for students from a variety of academic majors. Primary work is done in surrounding counties with at risk clients, from the pre-kindergarten level through high school. Students are assigned clients for both individual and group treatment, attend weekly group supervision, participate in regular client evaluations and are responsible for all professional record-keeping required as counselors.

Students are exposed to art, music, animal-assisted and play therapies as well as more traditional counseling modalities. Students are urged to take advantage of occasional opportunities to give professional presentations to students/staff/parents. Weekly research readings on pertinent topics are suggested to students.

Mileage for required travel to school districts is reimbursed. Fees for required fingerprinting and background screening are reimbursed.
