In addition to weekly preceptorship activities, students are invited to participate in a wide array of additional training opportunities, including Elite DNA University. At EDNA, our goal is to provide students with an experiential education to supplement classroom learning in order to prepare students for a career in Mental Health following graduation.
MSW students will be permitted to work in one of two different departments: care coordination and case management.
1. Care coordination is the first point of contact for a patient seeking services at EDNA. The student will develop an understanding of the varied services provided by an outpatient setting as well as the documentation required by a funding sources. The student will complete a biopsychosocial assessment resulting in the appropriate DMS 5 diagnosis, schedule the client to the appropriate clinician/psychiatric provider and make recommendations for appropriate community referrals. The intern will be required to participate in a minimum of two shifts a month in our After-Hours Intake program. They will have the opportunity to be paid for those hours if they continue working during semester and holiday breaks.
2. Case management will provide he student the opportunity to work with patients in need of a higher level of care. The student will develop an understanding and build the skills necessary to provide assessment of functioning and needs, strengths and support systems and treatment planning. They will work as part of a specialized team to coordinate needed services and ongoing monitoring of ongoing needs of the patient.
The Masters level student may develop a caseload of therapy clients once their supervisor determines the student is educationally ready. They will see clients individually or in group as determined by the supervisor. This will usually occur during the second semester of the preceptorship.
