Responsibilities are based on each student's education level as well as guidelines set forth by the college or university. All applications for placement are reviewed on an individual basis to determine the student's educational needs and the program's ability to accommodate those needs. We have been able to offer internships that include: therapy, psychological testing, case studies, observations and paperwork.

Students may be accepted into one of the following programs; Child Protection Team, the Hansen Center, the Teenage Parenting Program, Adoptions, Joshua House, New Beginnings, or Administration. A description of each program follows. The Child Protection Team services Polk, Hardee, and Highlands Counties. Members conduct assessments, provide education, and referral in the area of child abuse and neglect. Other services provided include; medical diagnoses and consultation, psychological evaluation, psychosocial assessment, specialized interviews, crisis counseling, case coordination, expert court testimony, training, and referral. The Hansen Center is an emergency shelter for abused children in Sebring. Services provided include; individual and group counseling, foster home recruitment, support, and  case plan development. The Teenage Parenting Program is a school-based counseling program which provides case-management for pregnant/parenting, middle and high school students in Manatee County. Services provided include; home visits, individual counseling, group counseling, family counseling, and parent training. An alternative high school and a full service school are also available. The Adoptions program serves Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Manatee, Polk, Hardee, and Highlands Counties. Services provided include; birth parent counseling, support, adoptive family studies, MAPP classes, dossier preparation, adoption transition preparation, and post-placement counseling and support of children and families. The Joshua House is a residential, group home for abused, abandoned, and neglected children between the ages of 0 to 12 years.  Services provided include; adoption preparation, individual and group counseling, and Medicaid mental health services. New beginnings provides group care for pregnant/parenting teens and their babies. Services provided include; foster care, individual and group counseling, case planning, case management, parent training, and independent living skills training. Administration engages in grant writing, personnel/human resources, program development, contracts management, outcome evaluation, quality assurance, contract negotiation, community work groups/task forces. Serves Pinellas, Hillsborough, and Polk Counties.

Special Information

BSW and clinical or Social Leadership track MSW, full and part-time placement. All programs require student to have their own transportation. Some travel is reimbursable. A stipend is available for the Child Protection Team and possibly for Administration. Most programs have weekend and evening hours available. Residential programs may have on campus efficiency apartments available.
