South County Mental Health Center is a major provider of mental health services to residents of South Palm Beach County, Florida. The primary function of SCMHC is to deliver accessible, quality, mental health care through emergency screening and evaluation and other various outpatient services. SMHC has 3 crisis stabilization units (two CSUs and one Short-term Residential unit and a residential program ranging from fully supervised residential care to independent community living. SMHC outpatient services include psychiatric evaluations, medication management, assertive community treatment/case management, targeted case management, and outpatient therapy services. SCMHC has an early psychosis program, NAVIGATE Program, that provides medication management, therapeutic education, family and peer support, assistance with education and employment goals, and case management. The Forensics team collaborates with the legal system to provide assessments, competency restoration training, and support for individuals within the criminal justice system. SCMHC serves diverse populations across the lifespan, including children, adolescents, adults, and seniors, addressing a broad spectrum of mental health-related needs. Social workers play an important role at SCMHC providing CSU discharge planning, advocacy, crisis intervention, coordination of care, therapy, and forensic services.


Special Placement Information:

The Agency is accepting MSW 1st year students, MSW 2nd year and Advanced Standing Clinical Students, Part-time MSW.  Transportation is needed; however, the center provides a company vehicle as well as reimbursement as needed. Staff and students/interns must have a valid driver's license and obtain their medical certification with a DOT physician before driving the company vehicles. Video or audio taping is not permitted. Schedules are determined by each program director; however, some departments do operate 24/7 offering weekend and evening hours for working students. The agency is accessible by bus.
