Alumna Named Director of Bermuda Court Services
The Government of Bermuda announced that Dr. Zina-Dawn Trott (MSW '95) would be the director of Court Services.
Dr. Trott returns to Bermuda’s Department of Court Services after working in the Cabinet Office, where she honed her knowledge of policy development and implementation as well as the administration of the Public Service. Previously, she served in roles at the Department of Court Services, starting as a probation officer and rising to a manager, a position she held for almost 15 years.
As the director, Dr. Trott’s role includes the aims of
- overseeing the management and administration of programs and services that provide alternatives to incarceration and reduce recidivism,
- submitting reports to the courts and the parole board on services provided and results achieved,
- Supporting individuals on community supervision, and
- Strengthening substance use assessment and referral services.
She earned a doctoral degree in strategic leadership from Regent University in Virginia Beach and her Master of Social Work degree from Florida State University. Dr. Trott also earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from York University and a diploma of Arts and Science in psychology from Bermuda College. Her education and experience have equipped her to spearhead community, organizational, and executive development initiatives, as well as to assist individuals and families in acknowledging and addressing life’s challenges.
Dr. Trott is a published author who has written on leadership and entrepreneurship, including an article titled “Character as a Critical Component of Leadership” (2010) and a chapter on the significance of values-based leadership in the book Faith-Based Entrepreneurship. She is also the owner of Next Step Counseling Services.
As a respected leader, Dr. Trott looks forward to guiding the department in its mission to support rehabilitation, public safety and community well-being.
