Notable ‘Noles are chosen each fall by a committee consisting of alumni, staff and faculty in conjunction with the annual homecoming celebration.  Criteria used to select the Notable ‘Noles include:

  1. Demonstration of academic excellence and dedication while attending FSU Panama City;
  2. Involvement in their community; and
  3. Professional or career accomplishments after graduation.

This award recognizes three outstanding graduates of the Panama City campus. There have been 49 Notable Noles since we began this tradition in 1996.  With roughly 6000 graduates, there is fewer than 1% of our graduates recognized as a Notable Nole.  This illustrates just how prestigious this recognition really is.

Jennifer Mayne received a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the Tallahassee campus in 1992.  Five years later she completed her master’s degree in Social Work from our campus.  She was a dedicated student in campus activities and attributes being involved in campus activities to being successful in her professional career.  She has mentored numerous students from the College of Social Work and saw a need to initiate a local chapter of the Society of Social Work Leaders in Healthcare.  Jennifer helped create the chapter and served as its first president.

Jennifer’s currently serves as Supervisory Social Worker for the Gulf Coast VA Healthcare System in Biloxi.  She also holds the position of Chair for the Professional Standards Board.  She is a certified social worker in healthcare with the National Association of Social Workers and a certified supervisor for Registered Clinical Social Work Interns with the Florida Department of Health. She credits the College of Social Work and the professors on our campus in playing an instrumental role in providing her with the skill set to be the social worker that she is today.

Jennifer and her husband, Raymond, of 19 years, have three children that keep them both busy.  Her commitment to implementing positive change is exemplified not only in her professional career, but personal life as well.

When notified of her selection as an FSU Panama City Notable ‘Nole, Jennifer shared that by maintaining a collegial relationship with the social work instructors, she has been able to assist our students, the new social workers, as they enter into the field.  When asked how to achieve success, she said, “You have to own your own level of ambition.”  She went on to say, “if you don’t have the tools you need to learn the profession, it’s hard to have anything to work with.”  FSU Panama City provided me with a strong foundation.”

Jennifer, we appreciate what you are doing .  It is an honor for me to recognize Jennifer Mayne as a 2011 FSU Panama City Notable ‘Nole.
