Broughton Hospital serves adult, male and female, patients between the ages of 18 and 64 from the 37 western-most counties.
Patients come from diverse cultural backgrounds, family situations, and county Mental Health centers, which offer varying degrees of services. Those served have active symptoms including suicidal ideations, depression, psychosis, as well as maladaptive behaviors such as suicide attempts, self-injury, physical aggression, assaultive behaviors, inappropriate sexual behaviors, elopement, substance use, and mental retardation.
Diagnostically, the population is composed of patients with schizophrenia, major affective disorders, personality disorders, various organic mental disorders, substance use, and a variety of medical issues including HIV / AIDs. Additionally, the patients may have legal issues - including ITP (incapable to proceed), NGRI (not guilty by reason of insanity), as well as those who have been identified as legal detainees.
