The Senior Care Unit is a 14 bed unit located at Citizens Baptist medical center in Talladega, AL. The Unit opened in 2007 and was created to treat the physical, emotional and social needs (and associated behavioral conditions) of senior adults ages 65 and older. The Unit offers a comprehensive program aimed at assisting patients and their families cope with cognitive and behavioral changes occurring as a result of the aging process. A holistic approach toward health care is realized throughout the unit's efforts in treating co-existing medical and emotional illnesses and the management of medication requirements of patients.  The social worker is responsible for psychosocial assessments for all patients on the unit. The social worker leads psychoeducational groups daily as well as individual treatment sessions for all patients as needed.  She also provides educational support for families. She serves as the discharge planner and works with patients and family members to ensure the least restrictive and most appropriate discharge plan.

MSW 1st year and 2nd year/Advanced Standing; Clinical.  Full time and part time positions available. Students are responsible for their own liability insurance. Video and audio taping are not permitted. Working hours for Social Worker is Mon-Fri 8-5 except on Wed when they hold an interdisciplinary meeting with the psychiatrist and the rest of the care team. This weekly meeting begins at 5:30 pm. There is no travel involved and no stipend available.
