Agency Description:

The intern will be completing her required hours while working with at-risk middle school students who attend James S. Rickards Middle School. The PEACE program at Harmony allows staff to provide year-round services to the youth and their family. The program provides youth with homework assistance, informal counseling, case management, individual therapeutic sessions, nutrition, fitness, life skills, stem groups, arts, performance, field trips and more. The PEACE program operates as a summer camp during the summer and an after-school program during the school year. Harmony prides itself on not only helping the youth, but the families as well. Through the PEACE program, families are able to receive assistance through flex-funds for any past due utility/rent bills, grocery, and more. The population served includes middle school youth typically ranging from ages 11-14. Rickards Middle School houses a diverse population of students with predominately Latino and Caribbean youth/families. The program typically serves immigrant youth and families. 

Special Information:

Full and Part-time BSW and MSW students. During the internship experience, the intern will be required to provide therapeutic services to the youth in the PEACE program. The intern will be assigned a case load and meet with those youth everyday throughout the summer and upcoming school year. The intern will be required to provide case management services to the youth and families as well. Harmony is committed to enhancing the quality of life for entire families starting with the youth in the program.  The student will not need transportation, travel reimbursement, and a stipend is not available. The student will be covered under agency liability insurance. Video or audio tapping is not permitted unless student seeks consent from youth(s) parents/caregivers. The agency’s hours are 8:30am to 5:30pm during the summer and 9am to 6pm during the public-school year. The agency is accessible by bus. The agency does not require a Covid-19 vaccination.
