Information

Lee County EMS provides Emergency Medical Services to the entirety of Lee County, which is approximately 750K residents off-season and over a million residents in season.
Our EMTs and Paramedics are frequently exposed to critical incidents that can result in acute stress reactions due to the shocking nature of the critical incident (pediatric drownings & other pediatric deaths, gruesome car accidents, suicides that shock the conscience). As the Mental Health Clinician for EMS, post-critical incident follow-up assessments are completed as needed (weekly or daily) as well as treatment planning and appropriate referrals to the community as evidenced by the assessment.
Intern job description:
Intern will get trained to become culturally competent in assessing, educating, and treating first responders related to trauma exposure.
Intern will complete manage critical incident list and provide follow-up assessments to EMTs & Paramedics that show up on the critical incident log.
Intern will become knowledgeable in assessing for Acute Stress Disorder or Acute Stress Reactions post-critical incident.
Intern will also monitor EMTs & Paramedics 30, 60, and 90 days post-critical incident to ensure Acute Stress Disorder gets resolved and does not evolve into full blown PTSD.
In addition to assessing and treating trauma exposure, our EMTs & Paramedics frequently seek help for other distressing life events seemingly outside of work (i.e. marital conflict, sleep disturbances, child/family stressors, depression/anxiety, substance use).
Intern will complete assessments and treatment plans for non-trauma related issues as well.
Intern will carry a small caseload.
