Scotland Correctional institution (SCTL) is one of the state's largest prisons, housing more than 1,700 adult male offenders in close, medium and minimum custody units. It offers a wide selection of educational and vocational courses.  Correction Enterprises provides employment to inmates in
the Laurinburg Sewing Plant, producing uniforms and clothing items, and in a Braille transcription shop where offenders convert books into Braille for blind students.  Scotland Correctional Institution has various missions including providing services to Chronic Care offenders and Outpatient Mental Health Services. Scotland Correctional Institution (SCLT) is a multi-custody facility. Outpatient psychiatry and 24-hour nursing services are available on the close and medium custody units. The minimum custody unit provides nursing services during business hours, thereby only allowing for outpatient psychology services.  LCSW duties also include: crisis intervention, individual therapy, group therapy, and restrictive housing checks. LCSW clinicians complete the following: Mental Health Assessments, MH Assessment Updates, Treatment Plans, Mental Health Treatment Summaries, and Risk Assessments.

Special Placement Information:

The Agency will be accepting MSW 1st year students, MSW 2nd year and Advanced Standing Clinical students, (Clinical) Part-time MSW.  Student will require transportation for internship. There is no reimbursement or stipend available for this internship. Requirements for liability insurance is detailed in affiliation agreement. Audio recording is only permitted with approval from SCTL Warden. SCTL is open 24 hours a day, 7 days
a week. Weekend and evening hours are not typical for interns, though arrangements can be made.  SCTL is not readily accessible by public transportation (e.g., bus). COVID-19 vaccination is encouraged, but not required.
