Information

The North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a maximum security, all male forensic mental health facility located in Gainesville, Florida. We opened in October of 1976 and have a current capacity of 193 residents. We serve all 67 counties in Florida with a goal of returning those committed as Incompetent to Proceed to Trial (—78%) back to their committing courts for disposition of their charges, and those committed as Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (—22%) to a less restrictive environment. During fiscal year 2016/2017, our average ITP discharge was 92 days and our average NGI discharge was 317 days. We served 497 residents during the fiscal year. The average age of our residents is early 30's. Our Social Services Counselors play a critical role in meeting our mission as they provide individual counseling, therapeutic modules, recovery planning and discharge planning while maintaining active membership on their resident's Recovery Team.

BSW, MSW (1st year, 2nd year, Advanced Standing Students), Social Leadership, Clinical, Part-time or full-time.

NFETC is a 24/7 operation and our Social Services Counselors work a 40 hour week. We do not provide stipends, travel reimbursement or liability insurance for interns or volunteers. The Gainesville bus route actually stops a few miles short of our entrance. Video/audio recording must be assessed on a case by case basis by Administration and Legal. We are a maximum security facility so ingress is closely monitored by certified security officers. No telephones or non-state issued electronic devices are allowed within the secure area. NE-ETC's cafeteria is open for lunch Monday through Friday.
