The CARES Team us the social services team within Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.  We serve all ages and populations including elderly, low income, physical, intellectual, and/or psychiatric disabilities, survivors of violence/crime/abuse, children and teens, chronically ill, psychiatric disabilities, survivors of violence/crime/abuse, children and teens, chronically ill addictions, human trafficking, prostitution, undocumented residents, etc.  We provide emotional first aid, crisis care/intervention, psychosocial evaluation, and care planning, we also serve in specialized roles to provide counseling and de-briefing for trauma survivors who are users of PBCFR services or employed by PBCFR.  Additional opportunities include exposure to program development and program management, as well as opportunities to participate in in-group work with PBCFR and/or partner agencies.  Please see “comments” section for additional details on our model of care.

Special Placement Information

MSW 1st year students, MSW 2nd year and Advanced Standing, (Clinical), part-time BSW part-time MSW.  The student will need transportation to their assigned station but will utilize county vehicles for work-related travels while on duty.  Liability insurance is required per the placement agreement between PBCFR and Florida State University.  Video and audiotaping may be allowed at the discretion of FPBCFR on a case-by-case basis.  Hours can vary based on student availability, but generally, shifts are 7 days a week from 8am-3pm and 4 pm 11m.  Students can personalize a schedule with the CARES Coordinator.  Most stations are accessible by bus.  See additional comment in the “comments” section.
