Information

SDCH is a residential child-care facility made up of eight separate households: six boys' houses and two girls' houses. The current resident population is fifty-two and household size and composition varies from three to eight residents based on factors such as level of supervision required and age. SDCH is at the service of children and youth who are deemed by the Court to be in need of care and protection. However, over 68% of our residents present with trauma-related/mental health issues and, as such, require therapeutic care. As a result, the organization is currently in change-mode as we transition into a new [trauma-informed] model of care that offers therapeutic residential care as well as a wider range of services along a community-based care continuum. These services are delivered or managed by our Child Welfare Unit which is social work led.

BSW, MSW (1st year, 2nd year, Advanced Standing Students) Social Leadership and Administration, Clinical, Full-Time. SDCH is run by the Dominican Sisters, a congregation of Catholic Religious Sisters. The Dominican ethos and Catholic faith give shape and meaning to the work being done at the Home and those who share in this work must be able to operate harmoniously within such an environment.
SDCH is made up of a main campus and two external locations. Transport between locations for placement-related activities will be provided for the student on placement. The student on practicum is expected to meet all their medical expenses and special dietary needs.
