University Medical Center (UMC) is a large, ambulatory medical center located on the University of Alabama (UA) campus in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It is operated by the College of Community Health Sciences (CCHS) in support of the University of Alabama Family Medicine Residency at Tuscaloosa. Additionally, UMC has outlying clinics in Northport, Carrollton, Fayette, Demopolis, and Livingston, Alabama. We provide specialty care clinics in pediatrics, geriatrics, obstetrics & gynecology, psychiatry & behavioral health, sports medicine, and family medicine. Additional medical specialists onsite represent endocrinology, neurology, pharmacy, nursing, and nutrition. Our interprofessional clinical and didactic educational setting provides opportunities for learners from medicine (undergraduate and graduate), pharmacy, psychiatry, social work, law, and other disciplines to learn with, from, and about each other. Our providers see approximately 35,000 unique patients annually for a total of over 105,000 completed office visits across all locations. UMC provides full-spectrum healthcare to patients of all ages and from a broad array of socioeconomic backgrounds. The Department of Social Services works with providers from all clinics and all locations to meet the social and behavioral needs of patients. Our team provides referrals to community agencies for concrete services (e.g., food, clothing), assists patients who have limited access to healthcare (e.g., lack of transportation, inadequate insurance), and connects patients across multiple providers.
