YWCA South Hampton Roads is committed to eliminating racism and empowering women. The agency provides support for domestic violence and sexual assault victims through victim advocacy, counseling, and shelter and housing. The YWCA Shelter services victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual violence. Clients range in ages, as the Shelter accepts singles and families with children of all ages. Intern responsibilities are as follows: Direct client services, including crisis support, providing resources and referrals, completing intake paperwork. Maintaining cleanliness and organization of shelter, including minor cleaning tasks, organizing/sorting donations, and preparing rooms for client entry. Documentation and record keeping utilizing Electronic Case Management. Providing support with housing needs, including housing searching.

Special Placement Information:

BSW Full time, MSW 1st year, MSW 2nd year and Advanced Standing, Part-time BSW, Part-time MSW.  The intern will need their own reliable transportation; the YWCA Shelter location is confidential and cannot be shared with anyone for the safety of clients. The YWCA Shelter is accessible by bus for students utilizing public transportation. Interns are not reimbursed by the agency for travel, however, intern duties will not include travel throughout the work day. The YWCA Shelter is staffed 24/7, therefore, interns are welcome to complete internship hours during the weekend and evenings.
