​ARC, Inc. exists because we believe in human dignity. 

In order to achieve just outcomes, the story of every person facing incarceration deserves to be told. The criminal legal system too often causes more harm than it repairs. Some of this harm is seen in the form of mass incarceration, prison abuses, sentencing disparities, and wrongful convictions. Other forms are more subtle, but equally damaging. It is through dehumanization that the harm continues.

Our role as mitigation specialists is to counter that process by helping decision-makers see a more complete, more nuanced picture of our clients. As a result, we enable more just outcomes that take the whole person into account. 

Our team takes this duty seriously. In conducting our work, we follow the ABA Guidelines for Mitigation Function of Defense Team in Capital Cases and the Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth Guidelines for the representation of child clients.  Through research and continued professional development, we seek to constantly improve our own practice. By providing trainings and technical assistance, we seek to help defenders across the country do the same.
