UM Sylvester is South Florida’s only NCI Designated cancer center.  The SW Dept. provides counseling (individual/family/group) and assists with discharge planning which includes addressing insurance barriers, arranging medications, home health services/equipment needs.  The assigned intern will specifically be working with adult stem cell transplant patients, both inpatient and outpatient, to offer counseling, education, community referrals, and will assist with discharge planning needs as well.  The patients are in different stages of their transplant journey (pre-transplant) to post-transplant) and interns are able to provide services throughout the continuum of care.  Interns will have the opportunity to participate in clinical case discussion, research, and will receive individual and group supervision on a weekly basis.

Special Placement Information

MSW 2nd year and Advanced Standing (Clinical).  The agency is available by bus/train.  There is on-site parking and parking validation is currently provided to students.  Hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekends and evenings are not available.
