Information

MYC is one of the State of Alaska Division of Juvenile Justice's detention facilities located in Anchorage, Alaska. We house male  and  female offenders between the ages of 12-20 who have been accused of or adjudicated for a criminal offense. Mental Health Clinician's provide crisis intervention, behavioral stabilization, group, individual. and family counseling for youth who are on detention units, in the community on probation, as well as those who have been given a two year (or more) institutional order. Additionally, clinician's write a variety of assessments and evaluations for youth including integrated bio-psycho-social assessments as well as suicide risk assessments. Interns will assist with the facilitation of these duties after a period of training.
Depending on objectives identified in student's learning contract, interns work with youth to provide the aforementioned services within the confines of their learning goals. Assisting in suicide risk assessments, providing here and now coping support for youth, and providing therapy are clinical roles that have been met by interns in the past. Writing grant proposals and assisting with program development are also learning opportunities that students have the ability to be a part of, should this be of interest per the learning contract.
