General acute care hospital. St. Luke’s Hospital, the oldest private not for profit hospital in the state of Florida, was established in 1873 and became part of the Mayo Clinic system in 1987. We provide inpatient care from birth through the elderly ( but do not focus on pediatrics). Sixty percent of our patients are Medicare, and we also serve the indigent, Medicaid, insurance and managed care patient. We have a sub acute (skilled nursing unit), a home health program and provide all social work services for Mayo Clinic Jacksonville. The role of social work is to provide discharge planning, supportive counseling and information and referral.
Special Information:
BSW and clinical MSW full time/part time students. There is no stipend, no ability to handle video or audio taping. Agency hours are 8:00am – 4:30pm Monday-Friday. The hospital is on the bus line from downtown Jacksonville. The students will be expected to wear professional dress, i.e., no jeans, T-shirts. Student’s car is not required. However, it will enhance their ability to go to visit nursing homes, assisted living facilities, other hospitals, etc. No liability insurance required. Student will need to be motivated and self-starter.
