Sophia Crittenden

Sophia Crittenden is a passionate and dedicated licensed clinical social worker and visiting professor with the FSU College of Social Work at the Panama City campus BSW Program and MSW Program. With a strong background in both clinical practice and teaching, she is committed to empowering and equipping future social workers with the knowledge and skills they need to make a positive impact in the lives of individuals, families, and communities.

She holds a master’s degree in social work from the University of New England. She has over 13 years of experience working in various clinical settings, such as behavioral health hospitals, community-based agencies, nursing homes, hospices, and private practices. Throughout her career, Sophia has developed expertise in a vast array of areas, often integrating multiple therapeutic modalities based on the unique needs and preferences of her clients, such as trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and therapeutic modalities like cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, narrative therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and group therapy.

In the classroom, her teaching approach emphasizes a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application. Sophia believes in creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment that encourages active participation and critical thinking. By incorporating case studies, interactive discussions, and simulations, she aims to foster a deep understanding of social work principles, ethics, and evidence-based practices.

Outside of teaching, Sophia mentors social work interns at several universities and remains committed to staying current with the latest research and advancements in the field. She actively participates in professional development opportunities and engages in scholarly activities to contribute to the growth and advancement of clinical social work.
