Sarasota County School district has 45 schools and many charter schools; ages Pre-K through age 22 are served in a variety of settings.  The school social workers service the district public schools on an itinerant basis; each social worker is assigned 2-3 schools and have extra duties.  They work in teams at each school with a school psychologist, school counselors, teachers, ESE Liaisons and other.  We are engaged in the response to intervention process (RTL), EE evaluations (Social History Interviews, adaptive autism and other behavior rating scales, , and interpretation thereof), service to families (help with basic needs of living, networking with other agencies, home visits) and a variety of other projects and initiatives at the school and district level to enhance and support the success of students.

Special Information

MSW 2nd Year/Advanced Standing (Clinical only); Full time.  The school social worker intern must be completely autonomous with his/her own vehicle.  No stipends are available from the district.  Video/audio taping may be permissible on a case-by-case basis determined by the environment, situation, and supervisors (including principal and parents).  School hours vary and the general expected work day shall be from 7am-5pm, but to be determined by the intern's placement; weekend, evening, and holiday hours are not available although the school social workers have an 11 month contract (Aug-June).
