Sherin Thomas

Sherin Thomas is a doctoral student in the College of Social Work at Florida State University. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences and a Master of Social Work from Indira Gandhi National Open University, with specializations in Women and Child Development and Criminal Justice. Her interdisciplinary background in nursing and social work has shaped her interest in addressing the complex needs of vulnerable populations through research that informs social work policy and practice.

Following her MSW, Sherin worked as a counselor, supporting patient care and providing emotional support in collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams. She later served as a Centre Manager at an NGO supporting women and children experiencing abuse and violence, where she managed crisis interventions, case documentation, and coordination with police and community service providers. These experiences shaped her interest in child welfare and research-informed approaches to supporting children and families affected by adversity and trauma.

Sherin’s research interests include child welfare, child maltreatment prevention, trauma and resilience, and social support. Her work focuses on how child welfare can better support children and families experiencing adversity and trauma, particularly through prevention-focused and family-centered approaches, and how research can inform evidence-based policies and practices that promote their well-being.
