Sherin Thomas

Sherin Thomas is a doctoral student in the College of Social Work at Florida State University. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences and a Master of Social Work from Indira Gandhi National Open University, specializing in Women and Child Development and Criminal Justice. Her interdisciplinary background in nursing and social work has shaped her interest in improving outcomes for vulnerable children and families through research that informs social work policy and practice.

Following her MSW, Sherin worked as a counselor, coordinating patient care, providing emotional support, and collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams. She later served as Centre Manager at Bembala Foundation, where she supported women and children experiencing abuse and violence through crisis intervention, survivor advocacy, case documentation, and coordination with police and community service providers. These experiences strengthened her commitment to child welfare and her interest in research that informs policy and practice to better support vulnerable children and families.

Sherin's current research interests include child welfare, child maltreatment prevention, child protection, family resilience, and social support. She is particularly interested in understanding how child welfare systems can better support vulnerable children and families and how research can inform evidence-based policies and practices that improve child and family well-being.
