Growing up in Central Florida, Jalynn French enjoyed helping others, particularly children. This interest, along with the institutions' commitment to community and leadership development, led her to pursue social work when she came to Tallahassee, Florida, first to complete her BSW at Florida A&M University and then her MSW at Florida State University.

"Attending both institutions allowed me to receive a well-rounded education while remaining connected to the community and service. During my undergraduate studies, I developed a strong foundation in social work practice and discovered my passion for mental health," she explained. "I chose to continue my education at FSU because I knew the university would provide the advanced training and experiences needed to help me reach my career goals."

As her appreciation for the social work profession expanded, so did her desire to create change on a broader scale. Jalynn began looking into ways to deepen her understanding and impact on the profession. At the FSU College of Social Work, Jalynn was selected as one of the college's Student Ambassadors, who represent the college at events and in the university and local community. "The opportunities for networking, professional growth, and leadership development, along with the encouragement I've received, have reinforced my confidence as a future social worker."

Through her experiences, Jalynn also learned about the National Association of Social Workers and the opportunities available at the local, state, and national levels. "I was motivated to attend the NASW National Conference because it provided an opportunity to learn from social work leaders and experienced professionals across the country while exploring emerging trends in the field," she explained.

To make this dream a reality, Jalynn reached out to the College of Social Work leadership about support to attend the NASW National Conference, something the college was eager and able to provide. Once in Washington, DC, Jalynn described the importance of seeing firsthand the impact of social work at a national level through macro social work and public policy.

Jalynn enjoyed not only the personal growth but also the challenge of networking with social work leadership from across the United States. "I approached networking by introducing myself to professionals, asking questions about their career paths and attending sessions where I could engage in conversations with speakers and attendees," she expounded. "I also connected with social workers and fellow students through LinkedIn to stay in contact after the conference."

"One of the most inspiring sessions focused on advocacy and the future of social work," Jalynn continued. "The session reminded me that social work is not only about helping individuals but also about advocating for larger systems that support justice and well-being."
