COLORS Community Center is an after-hours community center that provides access to resources and support to the LGBTQIA+ community when most other agencies are closed. At this time, the community center is open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 5:00 - 8 PM and Saturdays from 10 AM - 4 PM, with a plan to expand hours beginning September 1, 2023. Our core service concepts are social equity, health promotion, safe space, and personal growth. Our clients are 18+ and groups, support groups, socialization, job coaching, and referrals to LGBTQIA+ friendly resources. Social work plays an important role in our group work, as well as our referral and follow-LIQ services we serve anyone as long as they understand that above all else, we are a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community. Our clients come to us for peer.
Special Placement Information:
The Agency is accepting BSW Full-time and Part-time BSW. COLORS Community Center is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. We are 100% volunteer run. We have a board of six, along with about six volunteers who help out on a regular basis. We are funded by grants and individual donations. We are located inside Riverside Church at Park and King in Jacksonville, FL. We are located very close to a bus stop. We do not intend to require interns to travel as part of their internship duties. We are not a religious based organization; we simply utilize space that the Church offered to us. Students do not need to obtain their own liability insurance. We do require that all interns complete a level three background check through our contracted vendor. The cost to the intern is $10. We do not currently have funding for a stipend, but that may change depending on future grant awards. Video and audio taping is not permitted, but detailed notes and process recordings are. We are still a fairly new organization, so it is an exciting time to be involved. There are a number of projects available for social work interns, including group co-facilitation, intake assessments, crisis counseling, and program evaluation.
