The Walton Community Health Center (WCHC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center co-located with the Florida Department of Health- Walton County is in a rural area of the Florida panhandle. The area is underserved for primary care, dental care, and behavioral health services and residents from a wide geographic area rely on the Walton Community Health Center for all three of these services. With three clinic sites, spread approximately 25 miles apart, the WCHC serves residents from the entirety of Walton and the neighboring counties. The behavioral health clinic is housed inside the Walton Community Health Center. Integrated behavioral health and traditional therapy are practiced here. The age range of the behavioral health clients is four years of age and upward. The role of our foundational MSW interns is to provide connectivity to local resources for our clients, assist with intake paperwork, and complete follow-up for the Wellrx forms from the clinic. This follow-up includes contact with clients from our primary care clinic to follow up on indicated needs from the WellRx form. Connections to food banks, housing assistance, and medical resources are provided for clients who express a need. Interns co-facilitate psychoeducational groups as well as help plan community events.
