Primary Function of Agency: Institute for Justice Research and Development aims to advance science, policy, and practice to improve the well-being of individuals and families impacted by criminal justice system involvement. Functions of the center: Conduct rigorous, innovative research (both in scientific discovery and advancing scientific methods), offer high-quality educational opportunities for students, provide cutting edge training and support to professionals.Population: Currently incarcerated and reentering adults (18+ years). Role of Student: Clinical Client Contact Activities  • Administer computer-assisted personal interviews of behavioral health measures and clinical assessments; conduct individual biopsychosocial assessments and role induction; conduct group-based cultural ecograms. • Formulate individualized service plans using the Reentry Well-Being Assessment Tool and evaluate participant progress. • Assist in the delivery of both individual and group evidence-based interventions, including solution-focused brief therapy. • Utilize motivational engagement techniques to support, encourage, and retain participants in services; use harm reduction approaches.  • Interact with participants’ families and other natural and community supports that will aid in reentry and reintegration.

Special Information

MSW 1st Year and 2nd Year/Advanced Standing (Clinical and Social Leadership).  Full time and part time positions available.  Evening and weekend hours available.  Only audio taping permitted. Students will participate in additional group supervision and cross-site meetings for enhanced training and professional development.
