Founded by Dr. April Glasco in 1995 Second Chance Last Opportunity, Inc. (SCLO) serves as a lifeline for Sarasota’s community members in crisis.  This grassroots organization embodies the power of second chances and is deeply rooted in social work principles.  SCLO’s primary function is to empower individuals facing crises, regardless of age, race, or background.  Dr. Glasco’s personal journey, form surviving domestic violence to becoming a deputy sheriff, informs the organization's mission.  SCLO’s holistic approach includes addressing mental health and addiction awareness, crucial aspects in a community dealing with compounded traumas from COVID-19, natural disasters like Hurricane Ian, and economic hardships.  Social work plays a pivotal role at SCLO. We offer life-management and parenting skills training, counseling, mentoring, and health education These services bridge immediate needs and personal growth, allowing the individuals we work with to overcome crises in their lives.  SCKO’s Pieces of Me Women’s Empowerment Classes empower women and girls to plan for a brighter future amid adversities like homelessness and domestic violence. Youth programs like Reading si Fun foster family bonding and community engagement.  SCLO also expands its Emergency Crisis Center, improving conditions for clients and volunteers.  Cultural competency is integrated into its approach, respecting diverse backgrounds.  DR. Garlasco’s dedication, formal education, and lived experiences continue to transform lives.  SCLO embodies compassion, empowers individuals, and releases stigmas, proving that everyone deserves a second chance.  Social work professionals at SCLO are instrumental in implementing these programs and services, helping individuals and families navigate crises, rebuild lives, and move toward a brighter future.  AS SCLOS legacy unfolds, it reinforces the collective commitment to making a positive impact on the community, one second chance at a time.

Special Placement Information:

 The Agency is accepting MSW 2nd year and Advanced Standing Clinical Students. For students, transportation will be essential.  While there is a nearby bus stop that can be reached on foot, we highly recommend the use of personal vehicles due to SCLO's operations spanning three different locations where assistance is vital.  Please note that SCLO does not provide reimbursements for travel expenses.  In terms of audio or video recording, such activities are allowed on an individual basis, contingent upon receiving approval from our CEO, SCLO’s operating hours are from Monday to Thursday, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.  However, SCLO also holds multiple special events that take place outside of operating hours.
