The mission of Valerie’s House is to help children and their families work through the loss of a loved one together and go on to live fulfilling lives. Valerie’s House is a safe place to share, grieve, and grow. Valerie's House provides open-ended peer support groups and activities for children to heal after a significant loss in their life by forming a community for individuals to come together, share, and mentor each other through their grief. Peer support groups are also offered off-site in local schools.  Valerie's House programs serve children ages 4 to 18 years-old and their caregivers. We have also added a young adult group to help support these individuals.

The intern’s job responsibilities for the first year will be more of a foundation or generalist placement. This placement will provide an intern with a strong
grounding in basic social work skills, practices, and philosophical approach that will apply in any future placement and work setting. The intern will be
exposed to multiple social work roles, including case management or care management, advocacy, resource management and referrals, assessments of
children and families, keeps accurate family records, provides data and reports for grants and monitoring progress, assists with trainings and
presentations, assists with writing curriculum for peer support groups, responsible for setting up supplies and materials for support groups,
facilitating peer support groups and assisting with family events and programming.

Special Information:

Accepting MSW Clinical students.  Part-time position available.  The intern may have some travel associated with their position and mileage
will be reimbursed. The student will require their own liability insurance. Video or audio taping of families/sessions is not recommended. The use of HIPPA compliant software will be required for discussing cases and pertinent family information through class discussions and/or papers. The use of pseudonyms to alter identity would also be preferred. Some evening and weekend hours will be available and required for this position. COVID 19 vaccinations are required, and the intern will follow staff guidelines for exposures and positive tests.
