The International Rescue Committee's primary function is to help people affected by humanitarian crisis rebuild their lives. We serve refugee, asylee, and parolee populations from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Syria, Colombia, El Salvador, and Cuba. Our clients range from newborns to the elderly. The role of social work here is to assist the clients with assimilating to Western, United States culture, applying for as much help as they can receive financially and mentally, and ensuring their overall wellbeing in the United States.
The Agency accepts BSW and MSW 1. The student would need their own transportation, and travel is not reimbursed by the agency. Students do not need liability insurance, and video/audio taping is not permitted in any instance without every individual in the photo's consent. A background check is required, and student is responsible for payment of this background check ($51). The IRC in Tallahassee is open 9 am-5 pm, Monday through Friday. There are not many weekend or evening hours available for working students and the agency is available by bus, and we have had many students work here and take the bus from student living to here.
