CARES mentoring program “The Rising" is a once a week, 30 weeks, 1-hour group session tor children and adolescents. Our facilitators are paired with a college intern to conduct weekly wellness circles at elementary schools, alternative education programs, and juvenile facilities using the curriculum "A New Way Forward." The curriculum focus is opening up discussions about our emotional, social and academic development with guidance toward healthy living — social interactions, managing stressors, decision-making and so on. In addition, we partner with Starbucks Coffee Company together providing the adolescents with career readiness training program conducted at their site located in the Miami Gardens community.

Part-time BSW. Student interns need reliable transportation to travel to and from the community sites (be advised that includes gas and tolls - if necessary) that may be in the following areas: North Miami. Miami Gardens, Key Biscayne, Liberty City, and Broward County. The groups run during school hours — each site is visited one time per week. Video and taping are permitted with the approval of the program Executive Director Cerise Sutton. Each year toward the end of the school year CARES takes the team out on an adventure/social outing to show appreciation for dedication provided to our youth and our team.
