William (Bill) Kintz, a long-time teaching professor with the FSU College of Social Work served as the college’s Department of Children and Families Training Coordinator until his death on December 14, 2022. He worked in the social work field for more than 50 years.

Born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Bill earned his bachelor’s degree in 1970 from Saint Francis College and a master’s degree in social work from Indiana University in 1972. He began his social work career with Catholic Social Services/Catholic Charities in Indiana from 1972 until 1986.

Even early in his career, Bill's enthusiasm and dedication to the profession and helping others were noticed. He received a Letter of Commendation from President Ronald Reagan in 1982 for his service coordinating volunteer outreach services following a disastrous flood that year in Fort Wayne after the president visited with disaster relief personnel on site.

Bill moved to Florida in 1986 to become the director of Substance Abuse Services for Catholic Charities in Miami, Florida and would move to Jacksonville, Florida in 1999. He would spend the rest of his career in the Jacksonville area.

He served nine years as vice president of the Family Foundation of Jacksonville, a local community-based care organization. He earned his licensure in 2000 as a licensed clinical social worker and clinical supervisor.

For more than 12 years, Bill shared his enthusiasm for the profession with students at Florida State University, working as both a teaching professor and Jacksonville-area coordinator for the College of Social Work. He oversaw the supervision and field experiences of countless FSU social work students.

“Bill was a wonderful faculty member and a consummate social worker,” said Craig Stanley, interim dean for the College of Social Work. “His passion and enthusiasm for the profession were limitless. He will be missed.”
