On Wednesday, November 28^th, the Center for the Study and Promotion of Communities, Families, and Children (CFC) is hosting a presentation Dr. TK Logan from the University of Kentucky entitled: “Assessing and Addressing the Hidden Crime of Stalking. The presentation is the second lecture in the CFC’s inaugural research lecture 2018-2019 series, Engage, Invest, Respond. The presentation will take place at the FSU Alumni Association (1030 W. Tennessee Street) from 3 until 4:30 p.m., followed by a reception.

The lecture will feature Dr. Logan’s research on stalking as a risk factor for both lethal and non-lethal violence as well as increased risks of sexual assault, threats, economic harm, and victim terror. This presentation will examine how current perceptions of stalking often are misleading and harmful and will introduce a new framework for understanding and assessing stalking. This presentation will also introduce a new tool -- SHARP -- to facilitate assessment, understanding, and communication about stalking cases. Information from actual stalking cases will be used throughout the presentation as well as the current research literature. After the lecture, a reception will be held to facilitate advance collaboration.

TK Logan, Ph.D. is a professor in the Department of Behavioral Science, College of Medicine, and the Center on Drug and Alcohol Research at the University of Kentucky with joint appointments in Psychology, Psychiatry, Sociology, and Social Work. Her research and writings focus on stalking, partner abuse, sexual assault, protective order effectiveness, safety and coping with victimization. Dr. Logan and colleagues have developed the Stalking and Harassment Assessment and Risk Profile (SHARP) to assess a stalking situation and to provide a risk factor profile. Dr. Logan is also currently a principal investigator on five different projects to evaluate a variety of substance abuse treatment programs.

The lecture is free to the FSU community as well as members of the greater Tallahassee community.
