Appalachian Community Services (ACS) is a community Mental Health/substance use/IDD treatment agency located in the mountains of North Carolina.
We have several clinics across the seven western counties of NC.
We provide multiple different services to multiple populations. We have basic outpatient therapy, medication management services, enhanced services such as community support team, intensive in-home, peer support services, IDD services, substance use intensive outpatient program, and day treatment services. We offer our services to a variety of populations such as children, adolescents, adults of all ages, people of any race, ethnic background, and those within the LGBTQIA+ community.
We have therapists that are EMDR certified, TF-CBT certified, and some with substance use certifications and licenses.

Intern job description:
An intern with ACS will be responsible for engaging in our new employee orientation and training for the first two weeks. Upon completion of orientation the intern will begin shadowing several therapists and other employees to learn more about their duties and responsibilities.
The intern will then begin taking completing assessments with myself shadowing to help guide and answer any questions they or the client may have in the moment. The intern will also begin engaging in individual and group therapy with clients, again with myself shadowing. This pattern will continue until the internship is complete.

Special placement information:
Accepting MSW 2nd-year/Advanced Standing (clinical) students. Full-time positions only.
Transportation required. Agency accessible by public transit.
Liability insurance not required.
Video-/Audio-taping not permitted.
Agency hours: 8:00AM-5:00PM, Monday-Friday. Weekend and evening hours available.
COVID-19 vaccination required.
