Avant Garde Academy is a public charter school, organized as a not-for-profit. The mission of the school is to prepare students with the 21st-century knowledge and skill set needed to impact their surroundings from a local, national, and global perspective. This is accomplished by providing a nurturing and safe environment that promotes the development of the total child, where students are challenged intellectually, artistically, and personally.
Under the direction of the principal, the school social worker provides leadership in the school through the implementation of a comprehensive, data-driven school social work program aligned with the district and school's mission to promote academic social/emotional, and college/career development, while ensuring equity and access for all students. The school currently serves a population of 1,051 students in grades K-5 from various socioeconomic and demographic backgrounds. The school is a Title I school.
Special Placement Information:
The Agency is accepting BSW Full time, MSW 1st year students, MSW 2nd year and Advanced Standing, Part-time BSW, and Part-time MSW. A student will need transportation to and from the school. The school does not offer travel reimbursement. Students will need to be fingerprinted prior to beginning their internship at their own expense. Instructions and costs are provided at the time of assignment. Video or audio recording is not permitted. School hours: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm with afterschool running until 6:30 pm Evening hours from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm may be available for students. Public transportation stops are located in the vicinity (2-minute walk).
