Florida State University Center for Prevention and Early Intervention Policy's Young Parent Project is a contracted provider of the Department of Juvenile Justice. YPP support pregnant and parent youth by utilizing the Yale University's Minding the Baby Model to support court involved youth. They are offered the support of an infant mental health counselor and a nurse educator. Referrals are accepted on youth ages 13-18 and intervention support them and their young children who are typically ages 0-4. The social worker support youth and their young children with completing concert tasks including school and childcare enrollment, obtaining needed documents and linking them with needed community resources. They are also responsible to providing therapeutic interventions that support the attachment relationship, address trauma, and offer developmental guidance.

Special Placement Information:

This agency accepts MSW 1 and MSW 2nd year/advanced standing clinical students. For this internship, students will need reliable transportation. Travel reimbursement is offered. The Department of Juvenile Justice Requires passing background screening.  Agency hours are from 8:00am-6:00 pm. This is a home visiting program and most visit take place in the afternoon/evening after school. There are occasional Saturday visits. Home visits take place in Leon and the surrounding counties that make up Circuit 2. Attire is business casual. Interns are provided with YPP polos and an oxford for court attendance.
