At KIPP DC schools, students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to become Washington DC’s next generation of leaders. We provide a robust continuum of mental health supports and a trauma-informed approach in all of our schools. Over the past three years we have greatly increased our investment in mental health staffing, training, and support. We also benefit from strong partnerships that provide additional services, linkages to community resources, and professional development. At Lead Academy, we serve elementary students grades 1-4 (ages 6-10). School social workers support the school throughout the MTSS process supporting with behavior management, attendance prevention, and consulting partners to staff/teachers. However, our primary role is to provide behavior support services (counseling whether group or individual) to students that qualify for social, emotional, or behavioral needs.
Intern Job Description:
An intern will provide social-emotion learning materials to students within small group intervention reading settings. An intern will support with attendance prevention. An intern will allocate resources to support school’s needs.
Special Placement Information:
MSW 1st year students, MSW 2nd year and advanced standing. Video and audio are not permitted. The agency hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 7:30am-4:45pm and Tuesday and Thursday 7:30am-5:30pm. Weekends are not available, only school hours.
