Child In Need of Service/Family In Need of Service (CINS/FINS) programs are open to children aged 6- 17 years old and their families. The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) funds and supports these counseling programs to keep kids out of serious trouble. Young people who are runaways, habitually truant, ungovernable (do not obey their guardians), or homeless – and their families – can receive free services to improve their behaviors, resolve conflicts effectively, and start communicating again. A youth may be referred to nonresidential counseling or a short-term residential counseling stay at one of our programs depending on the need. The Oasis Youth Shelter provides temporary shelter and counseling services to reunite families torn apart by conflict due to the ungovernable and truant behavior of troubled teens. Programs include short-term, residential shelters for runaways and troubled youth ages 10-17 as well as individual and family counseling. Additional services provided include screening and assessments, referrals, counseling, intervention, case management, and aftercare/follow-up. The youth shelter program through LSF is also a designated SAFE PLACE agency and, as such, serves as a partner with local businesses and schools to help youth in trouble. Project SAFE PLACE is a national network of voluntary community sites where youth in need of help can go for safe refuge. Community Counseling provides up to 90 days of counseling and case management services. We also have Stop Now and Plan (SNAP) group programming for youth ages 6-11 years old and their families. This is a 13-week closed group that has a specialized curriculum for males and females. Groups are held with parents and youth, and childcare is provided to siblings.
