College of Social Work Backs Successful Co-Parenting After Divorce Toolkit to Keep it Accessible

Starting in July 2025, the College of Social Work will sponsor the Toolkit on Successful Co-Parenting After Divorce, a training created by the Institute for Trauma and Resilience housed at the college. The training is an important resource helping divorced parents across the country create low-conflict, high-cooperation coparenting relationships.
The toolkit is a four-hour, timed online training and is approved by the Florida Department of Children and Families for “court-mandated family stabilization training.”Originally created through the support of a Vandermark Foundation grant, the toolkit has been used by 39,000+ Floridians since 2016.
“The College of Social Work is proud to support this toolkit as it serves the needs of so many people,” stated Dean Springer. “Our continued support ensures that this free, research-based training remains accessible.”
Using data from this course, the institute’s research team, in partnership with researchers across the United States, along with the Divorce Education Assessment Collaborative team at Kansas State University, has published extensively on family experiences and parenting during times of transition using data from this course. The research citations are available in the Institute for Trauma and Resiliences Studies’ digital publication library.
“The College of Social Work’s sponsorship allows the Institute for Trauma and Resilience Studies to relaunch the course on a new digital platform, making the toolkit a more engaging and interactive virtual learning experience,” shared Karen Oehme, director of the Institute for Trauma and Resilience Studies.
She added: “The college’s support for the toolkit will also allow for regular updates to ensure that this research-backed curriculum stays up to date.”
