Florida Institute for Child Welfare: Faculty Demo Day

The Florida Institute for Child Welfare recently hosted an experiential Faculty Demo Day, inviting FSU faculty, many from the College of Social Work, to engage with state-of-the-art educational technologies. Organized by the FICW’s Academic Innovation program team, the event offered a glimpse into the innovative tools being used at the FICW to enhance classroom learning and professional training in child welfare.
Faculty explored three innovative platforms:
- Accenture AVENUES VR Headset: A deeply immersive, voice-activated experience using real actors to simulate real-world problem-solving situations.
MeetKai Virtual Home Tour: A fully explorable, computer-accessible home environment tailored to child welfare scenarios, allowing users to assess environmental factors in simulated investigations.
- CogniTrainer AI Client Training: A virtual AI platform that replicates therapy sessions with realistic chatbot clients, offering a safe space for trainees to practice and improve their skills in a controlled, risk-free environment.
Faculty also previewed the upcoming FICW Learning Lab, a state-of-the-art simulation space featuring configurable environments like a studio apartment and courtroom, enhanced with VR capabilities.
The FICW is grateful to the faculty who joined them for an engaging and interactive day of growing, learning, and advancing the education of child welfare professionals, from the classroom to the real-world.
