Change Happens! is a nonprofit that transforms the lives of families and children in high-risk communities of the Gulf Coast Region 6. We provide a variety of programs that reflect our mission to empower people to help themselves. Change Happens! relies on support from individuals, foundations, grantors, and corporations interested in improving communities and the lives of families. When it comes t family-focused nonprofits, Change Happens! s premier provider of services designed to bring positive change to communities.

Change Happens! has grown from one program in 1989, to more than 18 programs today and over 60 employees. Similarly, is service area has expanded beyond Houston's Third Ward to encompass 13 counties in the Gulf Coast region. Programs include youth services for substance misuse prevention, teen pregnancy prevention, mentoring and programs for youth at risk or involved with the justice system. Our adult programs including homeless services for housing and case management, HIV prevention and testing and ACA navigators. We also have the Northern Third Ward Implementation Project and a program focused on Advocacy called GLO working to expand Medicaid and disrupting the school to prison pipeline. 

Special Information:

Accepting MSW 1st Year and 2nd Year/Advanced Standing (Clinical) students. Full and part-time positions available.  Interns are involved in on boarding, training, and shadowing of all staff in a program. Interns may hold a small case load, of class load depending on the program. Possible duties include: in-take assessments, case management, facilitation of educational curriculum, data processing, research and funding documents review, compliance review, policy advocacy and grant writing. 

Student will need transportation and their own laptop. Mileage is reimbursable. There is no stipend available. Agency hours: M-Th 8am-6pm, F 8am-5pm. COVID-19 Vaccine is not required. Trainings, background checks etc. may be required based on program placement within the agency.
