Detroit Lakes Public Schools provides purpose, relationships, innovation, development, and equity.  The population served are children ages 5-18 and their families.  The role of social work in this school district is to provide and support student and families in need, offer resources and referrals and support social and emotional needs in children. 

Intern Job Description:

Attend truancy and attendance meetings, meet with individual students to assess needs, collaborate with staff to help students be successful in school and break down any barriers.  Meet with families if they need support and offer resources or referrals.  Work with the homeless students and families in the district.  Offering any services they qualify for and find resources they may need (food, clothing, and shelter).  Support and provide services to migrant families in our district.

Special Placement Information:

Agency is accepting MSW 2nd year and Advanced Standing Students.  Students may need transportation, but I would use an agency vehicle.  (Travel is reimbursed).  Video and audio taping are not allowed due to confidentiality. Hours are 7:50am -4:05pm, Monday-Friday (no weekends). Covid 19 vaccine is not required.
