Information

KidSCope works to ensure an infrastructure that maintains, protects, and promotes well-being. The impact of KidSCope’s work particularly on marginalized groups, such as the Black and Latinx communities, is children, families and providers having the opportunity to develop their capacity to self-regulate, build resilience, and make positive changes in their lives, especially after having experienced racial and social discrimination.

KidSCope employs a strengths-based approach in all its programs, valuing the lived experiences of each client and family and adapting services to each client’s individual needs. Through our diverse parent led Parent Programs Leadership, Advancement, Collaboration, and Expansion Council (The P.L.A.C.E), parent leadership is promoted. The P.L.A.C.E. provides a platform for parent engagement and leadership with support from other parent graduates, community collaborators, and agency staff. These parents and family members become stronger advocates for their children, and others on local, state, and even federal levels.
Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation provides screening and support to children 0-5 whose childcare providers have concerns about their development, behavior, or ability to succeed in the classroom. Consultants work with childcare providers and families to create success strategies in the classroom. Services are provided free of charge and do not require a diagnosis.
Mental Health Services provide evidence-based child therapies for families with children 0-5, which focus on improving the caregiver-child relationship and increasing children’s positive behaviors.
Parents are actively involved and gain an understanding of their child's behaviors and how to address them in a developmentally appropriate manner. Services include customized evaluation, early intervention, individual counseling and education for families, including PCIT, TFCBT, and ABC.
The Incredible Years Parenting programs are free, evidence-based classes to support and educate parents. IY Preschool is a 16-week program for parents of children 3-6. Parents learn skills to promote children’s social competence, school readiness and reduce behavior problems. In English and Spanish, classes focus on play and positive involvement with children, praise/rewards, effective limit setting and non-violent discipline practices.
Parent Cafés is a free 5-part "Family Cafe" series, using the Be Strong Community Cafe model. The Cafés were designed as a parent-to-parent way to bring the Strengthening FamiliesTM Protective Factors to families. Topics include self-care, safety/boundaries, parent-child relationships, empowerment, telling your story, and living the protective factors using structured discussions, guided interactions, reflection, and processing.
Kaleidoscope Play & Learn (KPL) groups are facilitated play groups for young children and their family/friend/neighbor caregivers in Orange County. Curricula is augmented with STEM and Abecedarian Project strategies for an innovative and holistic approach to shaping social/emotional competence, language and cognitive skills.
Assuring Better Child Health and Development (ABCD) promotes high-quality developmental screening services in primary care medical practices through education and technical assistance. ABCD provides materials, information and consultation about early intervention services, developmental screening, parent education and early learning resources for children 0-5 and their families.
