Information

The FJC began as a vision of 3 local community members and the efforts of the League of Women Voters in Georgetown, SC. There was a recognized need for DV services in the community and after many meetings with law enforcement, community partners and stories shared by the victims themselves, a new 501(c)3 was formed in 2007 to meet the needs of domestic violence victims, Safe Families Initiative. This model was based upon the foundations of an agency located in San Diego, CA called the Family Justice Center. After 4 years of working hard, in 2011 Safe Families opened the doors to victims of DV and became the Family Justice Center of Georgetown. Once the doors were open victims quickly began to access services and since that time the numbers of clients seeking services has grown. In 2013 FJC began to offer shelter to victims of DV and this is the only DV shelter in both Georgetown and Horry counties since 2013. In 2016, FJC opened a "satellite" office in Myrtle Beach and the agency changed its name to "Family Justice Center of Georgetown and Horry Counties". The staff and Board remain committed to the mission of reducing injuries and deaths resulting from domestic violence. The FJC provides services to include counseling, case management, court advocacy, housing and shelter. We work with adults and children/adolescents to help them move forward in their lives after fleeing from violence. Our LPCs and Social Workers provide direct counseling services to clients which include intake, hotline calls and therapy.
