The Gadsden County Healthy Start Coalition, Inc. (GCHSC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that envisions a community working together to make sure children and families thrive, while on a mission to promote health and well-being among childbearing age women, children, fathers and
families in Gadsden County. GCHSC’s overarching goals include reducing infant mortality and low birth weight deliveries, as well as improving health and developmental outcomes. GCHSC oversees the local Healthy Start initiative and utilizes a universal risk screening process to facilitate
the county-wide Coordinated Intake and Referral system. This serves as the maternal and child health home visiting services triage system and the primary point of entry for all programs. GCHSC ensures women and infants who receive positive risk screening scores or who are referred to
services for other risk factors and agree to participation are offered home visiting services. GCHSC coordinates two of the county’s five home visiting programs, serving pregnant women and children up to 3 years of age. The Nurse-Family Partnership Program which provides intensive services to
first-time mothers enrolled in care before 28 weeks gestation, and the Healthy Start Program which provides services to all other eligible women and infants. Both programs provide the following services: case management, educational support services (parenting, inter-conceptional, nutrition,
breastfeeding, childbirth, tobacco cessation) psychosocial counseling, and care coordination.
Special Placement Information:

BSW Full-time, MSW 1st year students, MSW 2nd year and Advanced Standing Students, (Social Leadership (Formerly SPA) (Clinical) Part-time BSW, Part-time MSW.  The Gadsden County Healthy Start Coalition (GCHSC) is located in Quincy, Florida. GCHSC’s traditional operating hours are 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Occasionally, after hours and weekend work is needed. Accessing GCHSC’s physical office space via public transportation may
pose a challenge. Interns will need transportation and liability insurance to perform the duties of this position. COVID-19 vaccinations are encouraged. Audio and video taping is allowable by the agency on a case by case basis. If the taped activity involves a client, consent will also need to be obtained from the client.
Additional Comments: Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
