Lindsay Healthy Start is a school based family resource center that has been in existence for over 20 years serving as the community hub for families and children within the Lindsay Unified School District. The agency provides supports to families utilizing the Five Protective Factors to empower and strengthen families who face adversity, homelessness, poverty and trauma. Healthy Start provides case management, in home evidence based parenting programs, parent café’s, and assists families with linkages to services for medical health, mental health, psychiatry, and housing. Lindsay Unified has 7 schools that refer learners directly to Healthy Start for services to address behavior, mental health, health related needs, etc. There are 3 mental health agencies that provide direct services to Lindsay Learners at their school campus and at the FRC. One of the agencies is a substance abuse provider. One local hospital has two Community Health Workers on site providing support for teens and adults who have chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and they also provide mental wellness programs to support the identification on mental health needs. Children served are 0-18, along with their parents/caregivers. Lindsay is predominately a Hispanic, Spanish Speaking community, with 100% Free and Reduced Lunch, and is a rural city in central California. Lindsay’s job are primarily agricultural and is surrounded by oranges and other citrus fruits.
Healthy Start has several subcontract with the county health and human services agency to support child welfare’s Differential Response Program, and two in home parenting curriculums. Healthy Start serves as the Homeless Liaison for the Lindsay Unified School District and is part of local community collaborative with local nonprofits and community based organizations supporting the safety nets of the county.

BSW Full time, MSW 2nd year and Advanced Standing, The work will take place inside the Healthy Start agency. The only time Jose would need to consider transportation would be for any district wide trainings and professional development that all interns are invited to. There may be an occasion where we may ask him to attend a meeting at a school site.
