Information

M-DCPS is the 4th largest public school district in the U.S. It is also one of the most diverse in student, and family population.  School social workers provide a range of services to both students in regular education and special education. School social workers respond to referrals from schools.  These referrals vary from requests to provide counseling, crisis support, and wellness check-ins, to requests for initial student screenings, suicide risk screening and assessment, comprehensive social developmental assessments, and behavior adaptive assessments. School social workers are also involved in identifying intervention or support services that address the identified student need(s).

Special Placement Information

MSW 1st year students, full-time and MSW 2nd year and Advanced Standing full-time.  The students will be required to have transportation to attend their assigned schools along with the clinical field instructor. Additionally, school social work interns may also accompany their clinical field instructor to conduct home visitations for purposes of extending school support to families (as needed). We do not reimburse travel to or from the school internship sites. The internship placement in M-DCPS takes place Monday-Friday, during regular school hours, no weekends or evenings. Although there is public transportation it is uncertain if it is convenient or accessible for the intern depending on their home base or the location of their assigned schools.
