New Leash is a 501c3 non-profit that focuses it’s work in Reentry providing services to people who are justice involved. We utilize a animal assisted therapy approach using rescue dogs to provide a bridge between the service provider and the participants. We focus on trauma informed therapy, and provide life Skills groups, career readiness, and restorative justice inside a prison setting (Prison Reentry Program) for 3 months and provide individual client services for the last three moths of services as the individuals transition back to their communities (ages range 18-48)
New Leash also operates a community program (YARD) which is a combination of Young Adults (18-24yrs) who are paroled from prison, or who have just come in contact with the criminal justice system and being diverted from incarceration to complete our six months intensive programs which includes training rescue dogs, learning basic animal care/shelter husbandry, group therapy, financial literacy, workforce development, career readiness, and individual client services.

Intern job description:
Intern tasks include, observing groups, entering data into system, completing intakes, emailing communication with stakeholders (criminal justice agencies), up keeping and updating files, cold calls confirming home plans, researching specific resources, lesson planning for groups, reviewing organizations policies, co-leading groups, observing individual client meetings, attend reentry coalition meetings, observe status hearings (court proceedings)

Special placement information:
Accepting MSW 1st-year and MSW 2nd-year/Advanced Standing (clinical) students. Full- and part-time positions available.
Travel involved. Travel reimbursement not available. Agency accessible by public transit.
Stipend not available.
Liability insurance required.
Video-/Audio-taping permitted with proper consent, however no taping inside the prison permitted.
Agency hours: 9:00AM-4:00PM, Monday-Friday. Weekend hours available.
Background check required.
Prison orientation required.
