Information

St. Lucie Public Schools is a school district located in St. Lucie County, Florida. We serve a population of 40,000 students. We currently employ 19 school social workers within our Division of Student Services and Exceptional Student Education. Being a public school district, our primary population served is school aged youth and their families. Within the school district our school social workers serve in a variety of capacities including providing mental health services to students (both individual and group), crisis intervention, truancy intervention, evaluations for exceptional student education, referrals for community services and collaboration with school staff and various community agencies.

Special Placement Information:

The agency is accepting MSW 1st year students, MSW part-time.  Our School Social Workers are 10-month employees who work Monday-Friday, 8am-3:30pm. We follow the same calendar as teachers within our district and that information is published on our district website. Interns would be able to work the same schedule as our school social workers. Due to the nature of the school system, summer intern placements are not available. The school district does not currently offer any paid internship positions for social workers. We do not reimburse for travel expenses. Some travel will be required but we do our best to limit the travel within the workday so as not to cause the student to incur unnecessary expenses. Student liability insurance is preferred. If video or audio taping was required for a class assignment we would need to gain permission from the student’s parent before we could authorize such a recording.
